Tokyo Trade Tasting 2023

ABOUT: A Wine Australia event that is being supported by WA WINES TO THE WORLD and the WA Govt Tokyo Office (JTSI). The Tokyo Trade Tasting 2023 is designed to drive trial and experience of Australian wines distributed in Japan, targeting 400+ influential wine trade and media.

Following the success of the Tokyo Trade Tasting 2022, this is a valuable opportunity to continue to build trade relationships and drive interest in Australian wines in Japan. The day will comprise of a tasting featuring 80+ wineries, masterclass activities, and a commercial lens to support trade guests to in-sell and promote Australian wine.

WA WINES TO THE WORLD has secured the following add-on opportunities for WA producers:

  • One of only two Masterclasses that will run as part of this event - Margaret River Chardonnay theme

  • Two wines to feature at the Buyer Banquet Dinner that will run concurrent with this event (8 Australian wines in total to be matched with courses) - Great Southern ‘discovery’ theme

OBJECTIVES: Support WA producers to be a part of this Australian promotion to increase brand awareness and sales opportunities to a targeted Japanese trade audience.

AUDIENCE: 400+ wine trade and media aniticipated.

ELIGIBILITY: Registration for participation will be managed by the wineries for this event, however you need to speak with your importer to confirm their support prior to registration. Your importer needs to be available to represent you on the day, and samples should be arranged through your importer.

  • Masterclass - Margaret River GI Chardonnay, must be distributed in market, must have noteworthy reviews (preferably a score of 95 or more with a respected reviewer/publication/wine show).

  • Feature Wine at Buyer Banquet Dinner - Great Southern GI wines, must be distributed in market, must have noteworthy reviews (preferably a score of 95 or more with a respected reviewer/publication/wine show).

COSTS TO PARTICIPATE: Cost to participate in the main tasting is normally $1000 per winery, however WA WINES TO THE WORLD, in conjunction with the WA Govt Tokyo Office (JTSI), is offering all WA producers a 55% subsidy. The net cost to producers is therefore $450 +GST, for up to 5 SKUs per brand. Net costs to participate in the add-on events are as follows:

  • Masterclass - $500 +GST, plus est. 8 bottles (max of 1 SKU per producer, total of 6 SKUs)

  • Feature Wine at Buyer Banquet Dinner - $450 +GST, plus est. 15-18 bottles (max of 1 SKU per producer, total of 2 SKUs for WA)

Add-on events are also subsidised by WA WINES TO THE WORLD and the WA Govt Tokyo Office (JTSI).

Note that producers are not required to attend this event in person but may do so at their discretion.

TIMING: Monday 25th September 2023 (note this immediately follows the Thailand Mission and ‘Essence of Australia’s South West’ event in Singapore, both coordinated by TradeStart, in case producers wish to travel onward to Tokyo to attend in person).
